Terms and Conditions

Effective September 2026

These Terms and Conditions govern bookings made through 4Drive Croatia. By completing a booking on our website, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully before proceeding with your reservation.

Scope

4Drive Croatia connects customers with local car rental companies operating across Croatia. We facilitate the booking process and provide customer support. The actual rental agreement is concluded directly between you and the rental company at the time of vehicle collection. Their terms, outlined in your voucher, form part of the overall rental conditions.

Our role includes processing your booking advance, issuing a voucher with collection details, and providing assistance throughout your rental period. The rental company is responsible for vehicle handover, maintenance, roadside support, and damage assessment.

Bookings and the Rental Agreement

When you complete a booking on our website, you receive a voucher containing all essential information: rental company contact details, collection location (desk at airport terminal, city office, or hotel delivery), vehicle details, and included services. This voucher must be presented along with your documents at collection.

The formal rental agreement is signed when you collect the vehicle. The rental company will record the vehicle condition, explain local driving rules, and confirm optional extras such as second driver, child seat, cross-border permits for Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, ferry tickets to islands, or motorway vignettes for Slovenia. Any damage or existing marks are documented in this agreement to protect you at return.

Collection times are selected during the booking process. The specific location and procedure depend on which rental company services your booking and your chosen collection point.

Advance Payment and Balance

A booking advance is required at the time of reservation and is processed online via debit or credit card. This secures your vehicle and confirms your booking. Cash payments are not accepted online.

The remaining balance is due when you collect the vehicle. Payment methods for the balance vary by specific vehicle and are clearly indicated during booking and on your voucher. Options may include debit card, credit card, or cash, depending on the vehicle reserved. If you do not hold a credit card and the vehicle requires one, consider increasing the limit on your debit card before travel.

Payment requirements are linked to the individual vehicle, not the class. Check your voucher for exact details.

Deposit Conditions

A security deposit may be blocked on your payment card at the rental desk. This is a standard hold administered by the rental company to cover potential damage, fuel shortages, or toll violations. The amount and card type required depend on the specific vehicle you have booked and are stated in your voucher.

The deposit is independent of excess liability and insurance coverage. It is released after the vehicle is inspected at return and no issues are found. Release times vary by card issuer and typically take three to ten working days.

Vehicles offered with no deposit requirement still carry an excess in case of damage. The absence of a deposit does not alter your liability or coverage terms.

Drivers and Documents

All drivers must present a valid driving licence at collection. Foreign licences are accepted for up to 12 months from entry into Croatia. An International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your original licence for clarity with authorities.

Additional drivers must be declared during booking or at the rental desk. A fee applies for second driver services. Only drivers listed on the rental agreement are permitted to operate the vehicle. Undeclared drivers invalidate coverage.

A passport or national identity card is required for identification purposes at collection.

Use of the Vehicle

Vehicles are to be driven on paved roads and maintained highways. Off-road use, including forest tracks or unmaintained mountain paths, is prohibited unless you have booked a 4WD vehicle explicitly suited to such terrain. Models like the Toyota Hilux, a pickup with part-time 4WD and AWD, are appropriate for gravel mountain roads and rough conditions.

Taking the vehicle across international borders to Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, or Serbia requires prior written approval from the rental company and may incur a cross-border fee. This must be arranged in advance and noted on your rental agreement. Travelling without permission voids your coverage.

Right-hand traffic applies throughout Croatia. Speed limits are 50 km/h in urban areas, 90 km/h on open roads, and 130 km/h on motorways. Motorways A1, A3, A6, and certain tunnels are tolled. Payment is made at booths with cash or card. Fuel is widely available at INA, Tifon, and Petrol stations.

Changes and Cancellation

Changes to booking dates, collection location, or vehicle type are subject to availability and may incur adjustment fees. Contact us at [email protected] to request changes before your collection date.

Cancellation terms vary depending on when notice is given. Full details are provided during the booking process and in your confirmation email. Refunds for the booking advance are processed according to the cancellation policy applicable to your reservation.

No-shows result in forfeiture of all payments made. Notify us immediately if you cannot collect the vehicle as planned.

Liability

You are responsible for the vehicle from the moment of collection until return and acceptance by the rental company. Any damage, theft, or loss incurred during the rental period is subject to the excess stated in your rental agreement.

You are liable for traffic fines, toll violations, parking tickets, and ferry charges incurred during your rental. These are your responsibility to pay or will be charged to your payment card via the rental company.

4Drive Croatia acts as booking service and is not liable for vehicle defects, accidents, delays, or issues arising from the rental company's operations. Claims related to vehicle condition or service must be directed to the rental company using the contact details provided in your voucher.

Complaints

If you experience any issues during your rental, contact the rental company immediately using the details in your voucher. They are your first point of contact for roadside assistance, vehicle problems, or service concerns.

For complaints about the booking process or our service, email us at [email protected]. Our office at Pujanki, Split, Croatia, operates Monday to Sunday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+1). We will respond within two working days and work to resolve your concern.

Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Croatia. Any disputes arising from bookings or services provided through 4Drive Croatia fall under the jurisdiction of Croatian courts.

By proceeding with your booking, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.
